Auckland Regional Information
Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, with one third of the country's population living in this harbourside metropolis. The central feature of the city, is the fact that it lies next to the marine playground of the Hauraki Gulf.
Although not the capital of the country (Wellington is!), Auckland has the largest international airport so most travellers to New Zealand enter or exit from this point.
Ideas for exploring Auckland include a visit to West Auckland with its native forests, black sand beaches and Gannet Colony. A a great way to gain an insight into the rich Maori culture is to visit the Auckland Museum at The Domain, while a visit to Waiheke Island is a must for anyone who enjoys beaches and good wine!
