Hawkes Bay Regional Information
Vineyards, art deco buildings, beaches, Gannet colony, rolling countryside and great weather; this is Hawkes Bay!
The main city of the region is Napier, which was devasted by an earthquake in 1931. The city was rebuilt with an Art Deco style and is considered the best example of Art Deco in the Southern Hemisphere.
This region is also one of the largest wine producing centres of the country. It is best known for its red wines. With over forty vineyards to choose from you are sure to find at least one that you like.
Add rocky beaches, sandy beaches, Te Mata Peak (a beautifully carved mountain), trout fishing, cultural tours and great biking opportunities, it is no mystery why more people are finally discovering this beautiful area.
