Ruapehu Regional Information

The Tongariro National Park is the dominating feature of this region. Its signature triple cone volcanos Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe can be seen for miles, beckoning you to come explore this unique national park.

The Tongariro National Park was gifted by the Ngati Tuwharetoa Iwi (tribe) to the country allowing everyone to enjoy the unforgettable trails, including the famous Tongariro Crossing. The Tongariro Crossing is considered the best one day hike in the country and a must for all avid trampers.

In winter the park offers great skiing opportunities making this region is a true year round play ground.
